This paper investigates the concept of care through an onto-ethical interpretation of Pietro Piovani’s moral philosophy. Care is not treated as a sectorial practice or an applied virtue, but as a structural dimension of human existence, grounded in finitude, co-existence, and responsibility. By reconstructing Piovani’s rejection of foundational ethics and engaging critical interpretations within the Italian philosophical tradition, the paper shows how care functions as a criterion for assessing the moral implications of technical and institutional mediation. Care emerges as a fragile, risky, and non-delegable response, essential to preserving moral responsibility in contemporary contexts.
