L’epistemologia della cura di Casey Rebecca Johnson: ripensare la conoscenza attraverso le lenti del caring

Abstract

This paper introduces the main themes of C. R. Johnson’s

epistemology of care, indebted to C. Mills’s and C. Elgin’s social epis-

temology and, in nuce, to Kuhnian insights. It places communities of

inquiry and the extra-individual dimension of knowledge at the center,

almost conceiving individual knowing as an emanation of a collective

mind in the sense of Sloman and Fernbach. Epistemic interdepend-

ence makes interpersonal relations, following Noddings, the paradigm

for rethinking epistemology alongside ethics, grounding pluralistic,

materially oriented obligations that counter epistemic injustice.
